2023 Legislative Session Wrap Up
I hope this update finds you in good health and high spirits! As your State Representative in Rhode Island, I am writing to provide you with an update on the 2023 legislative session and the remarkable progress we have made in addressing crucial issues that impact our community.
First and foremost, I am pleased to inform you that we have successfully passed the Shoreline Access Bill, which guarantees public access to our state’s beautiful shorelines. This legislation safeguards our natural resources and ensures that future generations can enjoy the wonders of our coastal areas as our state’s founders intended. I am proud that we have enacted a comprehensive police training program, which will equip officers with the necessary skills to recognize and communicate with individuals who have disabilities. This initiative will promote inclusivity, foster understanding, and help build stronger relationships between law enforcement and our diverse communities. By providing the necessary training, we are taking an important step towards ensuring the safety and well-being of every individual in our state.
This session saw the governor, House, and Senate finally come together to determine that Medicaid dollars can be utilized for reproductive healthcare services and to provide required funding in the budget. This landmark legislation recognizes the importance of access to comprehensive healthcare for all Rhode Islanders. By removing barriers to essential reproductive services, we are empowering individuals to make informed choices about their reproductive health and well-being.
Last, I want to acknowledge the achievement of passing the budget as a member of the House finance committee. The budget reflects our commitment to education, healthcare, infrastructure, and economic development, laying the foundation for a prosperous future for all Rhode Islanders.
